Parks and Recreation
The
Washington Township Community Park
is a 75 acre park located on CR 575E, offers separate
playground areas for both toddlers and children, shelters,
basketball courts, walking trails, and mountain biking
trails that are said to be the best in the state. The
park hosts numerous events, including the
Avon Community
Heritage Festival.
Avon Town Park is one of the newest parks in the county. The first phase of a train-greenways system in the park that surrounds Avon Town Hall is open to the public. The mile-long, paved trail is the forerunner of a much longer trail that is planned to hook up all Avon neighborhoods and tie into Washington Township Park underneath U.S. 36. Immediate plans call for a playground and benches to be installed.
Burnett Woods is part of the
Central Indiana Land Trust. These 68 acres are just east of
Dan Jones Road on County Road 100 South. Inside the park is
a marked nature trail. Parking is provided by the adjacent church.
Avon Junior
Athletic Association (AJAA)
is located at 866 South Co. Rd. 625 E, just southwest of Town
Hall. AJAA provides organized youth sports for softball,
baseball, basketball, football, volleyball and cheerleading.
Avon
Soccer Association is
located on CR 91, just west of the north end of CR 625 E, and
offers organized youth soccer.
Avon
Community Heritage Festival
is
held the last Saturday of September at Washington Township
Community Park.
